Review - Vampire Academy: Last Sacrifice by Richelle Mead

Last Sacrifice (Vampire Academy, #6)

Rose Hathaway has always played by her own rules. She broke the law when she ran away from St. Vladimir's Academy with her best friend and last surviving Dragomir princess, Lissa. She broke the law when she fell in love with her gorgeous, off-limits instructor, Dimitri. And she dared to defy Queen Tatiana, leader of the Moroi world, risking her life and reputation to protect generations of dhampir guardians to come.

Now the law has finally caught up with Rose - for a crime she didn't even commit. She's in prison for the highest offense imaginable: the assassination of a monarch. She'll need help from both Dimitri and Adrian to find the one living person who can stall her execution and force the Moroi elite to acknowledge a shocking new candidate for the royal throne: Vasilisa Dragomir.

But the clock on Rose's life is running out. Rose knows in her heart the world of the dead wants her back...and this time she is truly out of second chances. The big question is, when your whole life is about saving others, who will save you?

Join Rose, Dimitri, Adrian, and Lissa in Last Sacrifice, the epic, unforgettable finale to Richelle Mead's international #1 bestsellingVampire Academy series.

Richelle Mead’s Vampire Academy series comes to an amazing conclusion! We begin with Rose imprisoned for a murder she didn’t commit: that of the Moroi Queen Tatiana, who was killed after passing a controversial law. But the real murderer remains at large, and Rose determines to break out of jail in order to find the culprit. Meanwhile, tension is high as the other Moroi await the appointment of a new Queen. Lissa is nominated as a candidate, but in order for her to have a say in the council, another member of her family has to be present. Rose and her companions are on the trail of her unknown half-sibling, who may hold the clue to solving both problems…

Wow. What a ride. Richelle Mead doesn’t hold back in the emotionally charged, action-packed final instalment of the Vampire Academy series. All the characters have important roles to play and there are so many unexpected twists – I certainly didn’t guess who the real murderer was! Rose has a hard time trying to prove her innocence, and her continued attraction to Dimitri doesn’t help – especially as he’s still haunted by the deaths he caused as a Strigoi. Meanwhile, Lissa has a battle of her own as she faces the daunting trials in her campaign to become Queen – a role she doesn’t feel ready for, but may be the only way to change things for the better.

I loved the way the series ended, although there are some things left hanging which I’m sure will be picked up on in the Bloodlines series. With action, suspense, drama and magic, as well as thrilling plot twists and great characters, this series is a must for anyone looking for a new twist on vampires. I couldn’t recommend it enough!
